Project 2 was focused on remediation of assemblages. Remediation meaning a transformation of a text from one medium to another, and assemblage being anything that is composed of multiple texts with a specific purpose or exigency. For my specific project, I wanted to focus on one of my favorite books, “The Secret”. This book is composed of many contributors, different types of information (ranging from experience, informal, scientific facts, etc.), and numerous design features. I wanted to take the complexity of this book and remix it into something that was more “on-the-go” and to compress the information. What I ended up creating was an infographic titled, “How to Manifest Anything You Desire”. I aimed at making this infographic eye-catching and intriguing, hoping to catch the attention of people who would want to use this in their office, at home, or anywhere met with many eyes. This project was both a combination of writing and composing. Writing being coming up with the information for this text, specifically choosing which words would work best on this poster. Composing being the process in which I had to compose the physical characteristics of this infographic to achieve my specific rhetorical goals. The composing process was lengthier, as I had to construct the best colors, layout, design, along with wording- to transmit the exigency of the piece. The design of this piece is everything. The way the audience sees the infographic, and how they respond to it, greatly effects the circulation of the item. Everything about project 2 focuses on design and communication, as you need to design your project in a way that communicates effectively your goals. For mine, my exigency was to call my audience to either realize that law of attraction is something that can be exercised simply, to intrigue my audience into delving deeper into the subject, or just to expose them to a natural law. Our classes key terms (audience, design, exigence, material, network, genre, circulation, assemblage) all apply to this text. You must take into consideration every factor that will influence your audience to design the “right” piece. Without understanding the audience and their values, without understanding the genre of the text, or without diving into the pieces of material you are working with, it will be hard to move toward the next steps of sharing your piece- design, exigency, circulation, network, etc. From this project, I have learned that “reusing” and remediation of information can be helpful and informative. We can grow upon our resources and provide our audience with a new “purpose”, using parts of texts already available. Design is key- learn to understand your text’s purpose and your audience’s goals and values, and you will be better off creating an effective piece.
